About Us
Our History
Shongweni Dam was constructed by Italian engineers from around 1922-1927, a proximity of 5 years to complete. The dam is characterised by steep, well wooded terrain with level grounds limited to river floodplains, the top of the ridges, and limited area around the edge of the dam. The area was not managed as a conservation due to extensive grazing by surrounding communities.
In 1992, Msinsi Holding started to develop wildlife protected area. In 2013, the surrounding communities became the beneficiaries of the nature reserve through land claim leading to the departure of Msinsi Holdings 2018. The community then officially took over as of the 1st of June 2018.
